From Flooded-In to Dream-Wedding in One Week
Houstonian couple, Daniel and Jennifer, spent their last week of wedding planning trapped in their home after Hurricane Harvey caused a 500-year flood in their city. Fortunately, one week, 30 changed flights and one flooded car later, they were able to have their dream wedding at the Terrace Club in Austin.
Daniel and Jennifer met at the University of Central Florida’s Christmas Village when their mutual friends brought them together for a group date. Two years later, Daniel continued the Christmas theme into their engagement. After a freezing night enjoying the Christmas markets around the city of Berlin, they stopped at the Berlin TV Tower to see the amazing 360 view of the city. That’s where Jennifer got the unexpected view of Daniel down on one knee. In his hand was a one of a kind ring. Daniel purchased it months before at Galeria Minas de Colombia, where all the men in his family have gone to purchase their wives’ engagement rings. “Every ring is unique there and I am obsessed with mine!” says Jennifer, “I just love how parts of our families’ culture and history will always be a part of our lives.”
The couple’s main concern in their wedding planning process was the location. His family is from Colombia while hers is from Florida, and their careers had brought them to Houston, Texas. A pros and cons list later, they settled on Texas and, wanting to give their guests a unique destination wedding, they decided to have their wedding in Austin. The Terrace Club was the first venue on their list to visit, and between the all-inclusive packages and the spectacular views, they were in love. The booked the venue in January 2016 and then spent the rest of the year not planning anything! “I really liked having what some people consider a long engagement because we were able to plan the rest of the details calmly and also save the money to pay for it as well,” Jennifer said. “Not being crunched for time or money really made this experience smooth sailing in my eyes!”
Jennifer calls their wedding day ‘a dream’. She certainly looked a vision in the lace Maggie Sottero dress and matching veil from La Vie En Blanc Bridal Shop in Miami, Florida, and her greenery based bouquet from Wow Factor Floral Design echoed the surrounding Hill Country views to perfection. The ceremony, performed in English and Spanish by Reverend Rene Esparza of Texas Wedding Ministers, took place under the open Texas sky. “Rev. Esparza kept the ceremony lighthearted, spiritual, and filled with so much love and truth,” said Jennifer. “Many of our friends complimented the bilingual ceremony and thought it was so unique.”
The reception hall was beautifully decorated with white drapes and elegant chandeliers to match the simplicity of the scenery outside. The delicious food provided by Gourmet Gals Catering & Events, and the cake by Sweet Treets Bakery, kept the guests full, happy and energized enough to dance all night. The DJ, with Jonny Black Productions, was such a hit with the crowd, keeping them on their feet for ‘La Hora Loca’: a crazy hour of dancing accessorized with hats, beads, and glowsticks.
“It really is hard to just pick one favorite part. If I had to replay that day all over again, I would not change a single thing!” – Jennifer Ramirez
