Sometimes with weddings, it can seem like you have a never ending list of things to do before the big day. One of the most important things that should be on that list, but is often forgotten, is choosing a wedding officiant. Although it seems like an easy task, brides and grooms must realize that this is the person who can make or break the most intimate part about your wedding, the actual ceremony.

At Texas Wedding Ministers, we recommend beginning your search for the perfect officiant at least two months prior to the wedding date. Here are a few tips on how to choose a wedding officiant!

Choose a Type of Ceremony
Before selecting the officiant of your wedding, it is important for you as a couple, to decide what type of ceremony suites you both best. Will it be a modern, traditional, religious, or secular wedding? Certain officiants will suit some types of weddings better than others.

Meet the Minister in Person
Once you have chosen the type of ceremony you would like to have, you need to find a minister that will compliment your ceremony. When you have one in mind, make an appointment with them for a one-on-one meeting. This will allow you the opportunity to get to know the officiant on a personal level to see if their style works with your vision.

Check for Reviews
Reviews written by other couples are a great way to see if the officiant you’ve chosen performs quality ceremonies. Sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot are a great place to start. After reading a few of the stories from other couples, you’ll be able to evaluate how successful your wedding will be with the minister in question.
